Virginia/Carolinas Regional Chapter
The Virginias/Carolinas Regional Chapter of the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine is a multidisciplinary organization of professionals who work for the improvement of the physical and psychosocial health and well-being of all adolescents through advocacy, clinical care, health promotion, health service delivery, professional development, and research. Included in our membership are students, trainees, primary care physicians, medical subspecialists, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, psychologists, social workers, lawyers, and other adolescent advocates and health professionals. Geographically our region includes West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Our chapter meetings coincide with the annual SAHM meeting. Chapter dues are $25 for a “lifetime” membership in the regional chapter. Membership in the national organization is not a requirement to be a regional chapter member.
The Virginias/Carolinas Regional Chapter aims to:
- Promote positive youth development for all youth regardless of social, economic, or cultural distinctions.
- Support the provision of developmentally-appropriate evidence-based care for all youth with medical and mental health needs.
- Increase awareness of the health needs of adolescents and young adults through effective advocacy and dissemination of knowledge.
- Develop partnerships with community, academic, and governmental entities to collaboratively meet the needs of all youth in our communities.
- Foster communication among professionals who care for adolescents and encourage continuing education and continual quality improvement.
- Act as a resource for adolescent health care providers in the region.
