Southern California Regional Chapter
The Southern California Regional Chapter (So CAL SAHM) has included among its membership, several past presidents of the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine (Dale Garell, Richard MacKenzie, Lonnie Zeltzer, Lawrence Neinstein, and Manuel Schydlower). Our membership continues to include those dedicated to improving the health and well-being of adolescents in the Southern California area and worldwide. As Los Angeles was the original home of the national office of the Society for Adolescent Medicine from the time of its inception in 1968 until 1990, a separate Regional Chapter was not formed until 1991. Since then, the members of So CAL SAHM have remained fierce advocates for adolescents and young adults. We continue to carry out SAHM’s mission and vision and promote its core values of excellence, leadership, integrity and collaboration.
Our chapter meets annually at the national conference and at least once locally. Given the geographic area covered by So CAL SAHM, much of our correspondence is via e-mail. We actively take part in local conferences, trainings and advocacy issues. Many of our members also join local chapters of other organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics, the National Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, and the LA Pediatric Society. All those who work with adolescents in the Southern California area are welcome to join. Members of the Southern California Regional Chapter are not required to be members of SAHM, but we encourage membership in both, in order to take advantage of the broader membership opportunities. For more information, please contact the president of the So-CAL SAHM Regional Chapter, Kimberly West, MD, MPH at 213-984-8066
Join this chapter — membership in SAHM is not required to join a chapter, but you are invited to join.
