A Note from SAHM President Paritosh Kaul, MD

Dear Colleagues:

Finally, the wait is over! We will soon be able to meet one another in person and celebrate our 55th anniversary of SAHM! The annual meeting will take place in Chicago, March 7-10, 2023, and registration opens this week.

Our content this year will focus on collaborations and how we translate research into clinical practice and public health efforts. As many of us who have attended a SAHM meeting in the past know, we gather energy and support outside of the session rooms – hallway encounters, conversations over coffee or fluids of our choice, chats by the posters sessions, along with both formal and informal meet ups.

SAHM and our program committee endeavors to provide a stimulating educational experience, wonderful ambiance, and a welcoming space for exchanging ideas with colleagues. Our meeting vendors, like all of us, are grappling with these inflationary times and as such the in-person meeting comes at a larger expense for SAHM. Naturally, we are forced to absorb these increased costs. Our SAHM Board of Directors closely examined options and extensively discussed the best course of action to bring all of us an unforgettable meeting in Chicago. There has been an increased expense in audio-visual and food & beverage. Our Board unanimously agreed to not increase registration rates from our last in-person meeting in 2019!!! You may notice a few cost-saving measures on site, and we hope you will approve and support our efforts to keep the costs as low as possible to enable as many participants to meet as a community, in Chicago. All of us who advocate for and work to advance the practice and research of adolescent health and medicine – we look forward to seeing you in March.

About the Meeting Theme

Bridging the gap between “bench and bedside” requires collaborations across health care sectors through translational science. Translational science is the effort to translate research into pragmatic clinical practice and public health efforts. This allows clinical practice to draw from and inform that which is researched. The bidirectional relationship between research and practice encompasses SAHM’s mission statement of advancing clinical practice, delivery of care, research, advocacy, and professional development.
